Spirit Cleaning

There is nothing like the peace of mind that comes from knowing that everything in your home or office is good for your health and good for the earth. Thomas Theodore, owner of Spirit Cleaning, an ecological janitorial business, understands from personal experience the importance of maintaining an environment free of harsh chemicals and perfumes.

It wasn't long ago, while Thomas was operating a janitorial service in Seattle with his brother, that he became very ill with severe sinus issues. After realizing that Thomas' job involved daily exposure to toxic cleaning solutions, his physician recommended that he find another profession as soon as possible. Once Thomas found other part-time work and was able to remove himself from the chemicals that were impairing his health, his symptoms improved. He later moved to Olympia with his wife Yolanda, and their two children, who are now in their teens.

After taking Enterprise for Equity's business training program and writing a business plan, Thomas decided to return to his former profession with a new determination to provide his community with ecologically sound janitorial services, delivered with integrity and professionalism. Thomas continued to research ways to reach customers who are eager to go green when choosing a janitorial service. By summer, Spirit Cleaning will be green certified as a janitorial service for commercial and residential clients. Some of his local clients include Apple Homes, Radiance and Café Vita.

The importance of family, community and sustainability keep Thomas dedicated to his work. This personal ethic has motivated him to volunteer as a board member of the Sustainable Community Roundtable, and as a member of the Olympia Eco-Builders Guild.

Taking the Enterprise for Equity business training program helped me to understand cash flow principles and learn that money is just a tool. I'm realizing business opportunities equal long term learning and success and that has enabled me to enrich the community with my business talents and offerings.
